Our History
The roots of Superior Construction can be traced
directly to John Largura, an
immigrant who was trained as a stonemason. He began a contracting
business in Gary,
Indiana in the early 1920’s, and his company erected
many landmark structures in Gary,
such as St. Mark’s Church, Lew Wallace High School, and the old Virginia Hotel and
Memorial Auditorium.

John also constructed many post offices throughout the Midwest,
most notably
the one in Rockford, Illinois.

Upon John’s death, his son Elio founded Superior Construction as it
exists today. Superior
grew considerably in the post-World War II boom years, for a time
adding a concrete
division (Superior Ready Mixed Concrete) and expanding into highway
projects,
wastewater treatment plants, and industrial projects.

Work was performed for the steel mills and refineries that
are the lifeblood of the
Northwest Indiana region. US
Steel, Inland Steel, Bethlehem Steel, Midwest Steel, and
BP/Amoco are just a few of the clients that Superior Construction has worked for, and
continues to work for today. Superior has also built many of the landmark
interchanges
that line the I-80/94 expressway, such as Cline Avenue, Calumet Avenue,
Indianapolis
Boulevard and
Burr Street. We also built a great number of Bridges that run the
distance of
the Indiana Toll Road.

at the edge of the construction industry’s future, while keeping strong ties with its past. Many Superior employees are second, third and even fourth generation legacies.
In a world where “Here today, gone tomorrow” is commonplace,
Superior Construction continues to stand tall.
